In many Russian cities, cycling infrastructure is still in the early stages of development and often fails to meet safety and comfort requirements. This problem has become particularly acute with the growing popularity of short-term electric scooter and bicycle rental services.
Commissioned by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and in partnership with industry experts, we have developed the “Velomanual”, a collection of solutions based on international practices and adapted to the realities of Russian cities. The document includes a wide range of practical examples for designing micromobility infrastructure.
It is intended for transport engineers, architects, and city administration representatives responsible for creating a safe and convenient environment for all road users in conditions of limited space.
“Velomanual” is a compilation of the experiences of urban infrastructure designers and users. This document serves as a roadmap for municipalities that need to organise a micromobility system, but are unsure where to begin.
It answers key questions such as how to develop cycling infrastructure while improving road safety, how micromobility can contribute to urban economic development, and when a bicycle or scooter is a more convenient choice than a car.
