A traffic management project (TMP) sets out the measures required to ensure the safety of both vehicular and pedestrian movement within a defined section of the street and road network.
The document includes:
traffic management schemes with proposals for changes to speed limits and the arrangement of public transport stops;
layouts showing the placement of traffic control devices, such as road signs, road markings, and traffic lights;
an explanatory note providing the rationale for the proposed measures.
A TMP is developed when it is necessary to design and agree on a permanent or temporary traffic management scheme, or when adjustments to an existing permanent scheme are required. It supports the optimization of network capacity and the improvement of safety within the specified area.
Preparation of a TMP is mandatory in the following cases:
construction or reconstruction of roads;
planning of residential developments and allocation of parking spaces;
changes to public transport routes;
introduction of temporary restrictions or full closure of traffic for more than 24 hours (e.g., for repair works or large-scale public events).
Development of a distinctive visual and communication identity for a city or its transport system. Integration of the brand into urban infrastructure and public transport to increase appeal and recognizability.
Industrial design of public transport stops, parking facilities, and other urban transport infrastructure. Design of wayfinding systems. Public realm improvement projects.
Calculation of economic efficiency of transport solutions and assessment of project viability.
Support in the choice of technology solutions for improvement of transport system efficiency, safety, and quality of life in the city.
